Scale Heights...Where You
At the beginning of our Schools’ new academic year, I think of the Welland Gouldsmith family and of how blessed we are. As we thank God for blessings over the past 150 years, we look forward to another successful and exciting 2020.
As we run this race
As our best efforts we bring
We are spurred on by grace
Knowing we must win for our King.
Spiridon Louis isn’t well known around the world, but he is in Greece. That’s because of what happened in 1896 when the Olympic Games were revived in Athens.
During the competition that year the Greeks did quite well – winning most of the medals of any nation; but the event that became a source of true Greek pride was the first ever marathon. Seventeen athletes competed in this race of 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) but it was won by Louis – a common labourer. For his efforts, Louis was honoured by king and country and he became a national hero.
Running a race is a picture of our School life. We must not just “run”, but “run to win”. As the apostle Paul said, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain.” Once we finish this race, we can joyfully anticipate receiving the victory crown.
At the Welland Gouldsmith Schools, the Principal, Headmistress, Vice-Principals, Coordinators and Staff try their utmost to help each child who attends our Schools. Girls and boys remember that no matter what you learn at Welland Gouldsmith School run a sincere and well fought race without giving up halfway but completing the entire course, despite the pitfalls and dangers. At this time we know that we are facing very, very difficult and unprecedented times but we have to remember that all of us are here to work together to try to overcome these obstacles that come in our way. I’m sure that we will be able to overcome each and every one of them. We teach you here that our race is not a mere sprint but a marathon. I hope that each one of your lives will be beautiful and fruitful.
I take this opportunity to sincerely wish every single member of the Welland Gouldsmith family all the best for our Sesquicentennial Year. May you always fight a good fight. God Bless you and our Welland Gouldsmith Schools in 2020 and in the years ahead, as we teach our children to run a good, honest race which I’m sure you will win and bring joy to your alma mater and to God who provides us the strength that we need to persevere and grow at all times.
Welland Gouldsmith children
Swiftly let us run
Winning with thanksgiving
For the childrens’ King.
